Understanding and Responding to Biosecurity Risks and Threats Meeting (June 6-8 2007, Rome, Italy)
From Biosecwiki
Overview
Since 2006, FAO has been implementing activities under the project "Support to National Biosecurity Initiatives and Policies in Countries Facing High Risks of Outbreaks of Diseases and Pests". The main objective of Phase I of the project is to assess the magnitude and dynamics of diseases, their transboundary aspects, and the combined or cumulative impact on food security, biodiversity, livelihoods, and rural development in general, with a view to generating information relevant to policy formulation in responding to biosecurity risks and threats.
This meeting was called in order to reflect on progress thus far. The specific objectives of the meeting were:
- To discuss linkages among crop, livestock and human diseases, in order to develop a common understanding of drivers, impacts and responses;
- To present and review recent FAO activities on biosecurity problems;
- To define priorities for further research and policy action by FAO and its partners.
