First Anniversary of the Global
Forum The FSN Forum is celebrating its first anniversary which coincides with the World Food Day on the 16th of October 2008. During its first year of activities the FSN Forum has kept growing and has served as a lively platform for exchanging valuable knowledge and resources. The Forum has brought together over 900 members from 123 countries. It has held 26 e-discussions, pooled over 480 resource papers, 40 useful web-links and shared 150 news and events. To enrich and improve the usefulness of the debates, the FSN Forum has been strengthening linkages with other relevant networks on food security and nutrition, such as the UN Initiative Solution Exchange in India -Food and Nutrition Community and FAO Acting Locally in Food Security, Nutrition and Livelihoods (FSNL) D-Group. In addition to hosting relevant discussions, peer reviews and open queries, the FSN Forum has carried out other exciting activities proposed by Forum members, such as establishing the Forum’s Editorial Board and producing the first FSN Forum Brief based on the discussion titled “Nutrition Education – Important but Often Neglected”. The FSN Forum has also taken an active role in responding to the world’s dramatic increase in food prices, with the launch of a new section exclusively dedicated to Soaring Food Prices: the SFP space. This area of the FSN Forum was opened at the FAO’s High Level Conference last June on “World Food Security: the Challenges of Climate Change and Bioenergy” and focuses on information exchanges and discussions on the global food crisis. The FSN Forum Team will continue developing the platform both technically and content-wise to ensure that it will help serve better members’ interests. In doing that, we will be seeking your ideas and comments to make the Forum a more efficient tool for knowledge sharing, bridging different communities and contributing actively to Food Security and Nutrition. The FSN Forum team thanks all participants, facilitators and experts for their great support and active participation and looks forward to more enriching exchanges in its second year of existence!
