We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join Monsanto Vegetable's Genebank Operations as a Research Associate. As a Genebank Research Associate you will help improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Monsanto Vegetable Seeds Division genebank focused on Brassica and leafy vegetable crops. You will be part of the team that ensures that useful genetic diversity is made known and available to breeders and scientists. You will be doing it by catalyzing the development of strategies for screening, characterization and evaluation of genebank accessions for traits of importance, and developing systems for enhancing access to information and materials by breeders and scientists.

-Review in-house and public seed inventories

Water Efficient Maize for Africa (WEMA) Breeding Lead
Petit, SOUTH AFRICA

WEMA is a private public partnership that is commited to bringing drought tolerant maize hybrids to the farmers of sub-Saharan Africa through breeding and biotechnology. Incumbent must be able to provide direction to the team in applying technical advances pertaining to drought stress breeding and molecular breeding techniques. Strong understanding of managing environments, corn germplasm and compliance for testing biotech traits is critical to the success of the program. Assure that research team is trained in all safety, environmental, health and security procedures for a safe research operation. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential to this role. Travel and management of trials in partner SSA countries is required.
Required skills:
# PhD in Plant Breeding and Genetics or related field with 5+ years experience managing a breeding program.
# Experience in corn breeding, drought testing or breeding for African environments is preferred.
# Individual should have demonstrated project management skills and ability to manage a diverse team. (...)
