Senior Scientist, Genetic Diversity
Under the supervision of the Director, Understanding and Managing Biodiversity Programme, and based at the Regional Office for Sub-Saharan Africa, Nairobi, Kenya, the incumbent will: Provide scientific leadership, coordination and facilitation of research to overcome constraints to the enhanced use of plant genetic resources. More specifically, having in-depth expertise in at least one of the areas listed below, the Senior Scientist will build the necessary links to develop a cohesive programme of work encompassing all four areas. (...) Essential qualifications and competencies: a PhD in genetics or conservation genetics with an emphasis on plant populations, or in plant breeding. To be based in the ICRISAT regional hub at Niamey, NIGER. The selected candidate will work within a newly approved project entitled "Harnessing Opportunities for Productivity Enhancement (HOPE) of Sorghum and Millets in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia". Integrate himself/herself into an interdisciplinary team of breeders, molecular eneticists, agronomists, socio-economists, food technologists, seed systems pecialists and technology transfer experts from ICRISAT, National Agricultural Research Institutes and development partners. Maize Genetic Resources Specialist – Post-Doctoral Fellow or Scientist
CIMMYT is looking for a well qualified scientist to join its international team working to improve access and use of maize genetic resources. As a member of the CIMMYT Genetic Resources Center and in collaboration with public, private, local and international partners, the position has responsibilities to develop and implement CIMMYT’s vision to safe-guard, expand and utilize the world’s largest collection of tropical maize genetic resources for the benefit of human kind. The position is based in Mexico and is a career-track position. The CIMMYT Maize Genetic Resources Collection is the largest repository of maize landrace accessions in the world. Characterization, distribution and use of this germplasm are major objectives for CIMMYT, as is the development and coordination of associated web-enabled informatics resources. Minimum qualifications: PhD degree in molecular genetics, plant breeding, genetic resource conservation or botany.
