The International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture

Strategic alliance of members, partners and international agricultural centers that mobilizes science to benefit the poor.

exchange of plant genetic resources

Interest in the international collections is expected to increase, as they become characterized for their valuable adaptability, productivity and quality enhancing traits to improve utilization and incorporation into active collections and finished products. However, the lack of long-term support for national breeding strategies and programmes results in a lack of effective exchange of valuable germplasm and technologies.

GIPB will promote and mobilize knowledge and information tools to facilitate exchange of genetic resources, from public and private programmes, which could benefit developing country breeding programmes.
