Netherlands – Chiang Mai Green City Philosophy 2008

The greenery in the city, parks, plants and trees enjoy a growing interest nowadays. However, many people still think that green areas in and around the city only cost money. Scientific research has demonstrated that green areas in residential quarters, offices and nursing homes can have a strong positive influence on health; it is de-stressingand generating quicker recovery in hospital for example. The scientific research continues under the umbrella of the green city philosophy with the central theme: it is worthwhile to invest more in green areas in the city. Chiang Mai City has been enjoying the urbanization for decades with corresponding environmental problems.The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in cooperation with the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning and Chiang Mai University supported by Chiang Mai City Municipality have worked together over more than a year on the Green City Philosophy. Now, the parties will together organize a Seminar (Wednesday 19th November 2008 at Novotel Chiang Mai Hotel) and Workshop (Thursday 20th November 2008 at Chiang Mai City Municipality) on “Netherlands – Chiang Mai Green City Philosophy 2008”.
