About YouTube
YouTube is a video sharing Web site where
users can upload, view and share short videos or multimedia presentations.
Unregistered users can view most videos on the site, while registered users can
also upload videos.
Viewers' comments
and a number of related videos (determined automatically on the basis of title,
tags and ownership) appear on screen next to each video. Each video is also accompanied
by the HTML code required to link to the video and/or embed it within another
Web page (unless the video owner chooses to disable the embedding feature).
An example
of an FAO Web page with an embedded YouTube video:
Gilberto
Gil - Meet the Goodwill Ambassadors
A YouTube channel is a single Web page where
users can view the channel owner's public videos, favourites, bulletins,
comments, subscribers and video log. A channel also presents related YouTube
videos and provides a forum for people to connect with the channel owner. FAO
currently has three corporate YouTube channels, soon to be consolidated to two:

Creation of additional channels (e.g. by decentralized offices, by headquarters units) is strongly discouraged.

Requirements
All uploaded
material must belong to FAO, i.e. be part of FAO's intellectual property. In
addition, the material that is uploaded to the FAO YouTube channels must:
- be relevant to the
activities of the Organization
- be of adequate quality
to reflect positively on the Organization
- have been recorded with the permission of easily identifiable people
appearing in the video (including FAO staff)
- have been recorded with the permission of the parent or legal
guardian of any identifiable children appearing in the video
Any video or
photographic material shot by FAO employees while on duty / on mission for FAO
is the property of the Organization.
How to upload FAO video content to YouTube
With few
exceptions, FAO units and offices wishing to upload video or multimedia content
to YouTube should use the FAO Knowledge Sharing channel:
www.youtube.com/FAOoftheUN.
Creation
of additional FAO YouTube channels is strongly discouraged. FAO takes no
responsibility for videos uploaded to other YouTube channels or other video
sharing tools.
